The dry sockets will not return. Secondly, use a water pik or a similar device to keep the sockets clean.
The gauze is actually filling the hole, so you probably won't get much in there. I had the same situation, and my surgeon changed the gauze every other day for a week. The worst part was the antibiotic that the gauze is soaked in - tastes awful!
I mostly ate things that required minimal chewing (scrambled eggs, yogurt, etc.). Luckily, they heal fast, so hopefully you will feel better and be back to eating real food soon!
