white bump on upper gum part just before tooth

My gym is receeding and there is a white bump that does not puss or anything but sits on the upper part of the gum just before the tooth grows through. It isn't really painful, just uncomfortable. I do smoke occastionally and thought maybe it might be cancerous? i need help and can't afford a dentist right now to "look" at it. It is very small but annoying. It sits rigth on top of the gum line and the gum is receeding. Any advice? please.

What I had might not be very similar. I had a white bump under my tongue, the little piece that connects my tongue to my mouth. (i dont know what it's called). I went to the dentist, and he told me to suck on lemons for half an hour, and that got it to go away. He did say it could've been something more serious, though. So i'd try the lemons, and if that doesn't help, see a dentist ! (:

You need to see an oral surgeon.  I deal with this every day (RDH), it could be precancerous.  It sounds like just a little fibrous tumor (fibroma), but if I am wrong, then it will become more expensive than it is already.  Those fibrous tumors could easily turn to something worse tho, One of my patients had one on her lip and the biopsy did show it was precancerous and she had quit smoking 10 years prior (32 years old).  If it lasts more than 2 weeks go see the doctor.
