Anyone out there feel like they suffer from PTSD from a car accident?

Just wondering? My Doctors seem to think this is an issue for me. I think I'm just depressed do to lack of my old activities and pain. Idk? I hate driving, and being in a car when some one else is driving.

Hi, I was wrecked a friends mothers car.  She didn't want to drive, we were both stoned, to this day I still don't drive.  This happened about 30 years ago.  I still can drive in a pinch, but get very anxious.  I hope you have better recovery than I did.

Wow! Sounds like you are and have gone through a very hard time. I really hope you get the pain sorted so then maybe you can work on the other issues such as if the depression is still around. I can't even imagine going through all the pain you are and not getting much support from doctors and what not.
Have you ever tried or are you able to do something like yoga, and mediation? I believe that when done under the right support can help with depression and pain. You may want to talk to your doctor about this, if you want an alternative therapy.

Although i can't really help, know that i am here if you ever want to talk or vent your frustration.

I'm on pain killers for my back/neck pain and an anti-anxiety drug too. I have been in a full circle w/ docs.  My NP,Neuro, PT, Pain Management, Back/neck Doc, NP and just started w/ a Chriopractor.(who says my neck/back is a mess) Got an appt. w/ a new Pain Management place in Sept. I would like to see a therapist, but getting car insurance to pay for it is not so easy and my own health insurance doesn't pay for it. It is just so depressing to feel like I wasted the last 6 months not getting the right help.

It can be very difficult to get over something that causes pain, or very frequent pain. It may seem easy to get over something, but in reality it's not. I've never been through pain from a car accident, but have experienced other forms and it's taking me almost almost 8 years to even begin to forget and move on. It can be easier some days and harder than others.

Have your doctors tried to do anything for the pain, or referred you to anyone you can talk to about this?

Thanks for listening. I have nightmares about the accident all the time, but I think I'm just so depressed going six months of pain. The daily pain makes me depressed.

As I too have been is a traumatic situation, though not a car accident, it can mess with your head and was very very hard and still is  hard to deal with. It is not something you get over, but something you work through to understand the thoughts and realize it is the way, your brain processes things which happen. Depression is defiantly apart of PTSD, but your depression doesn't necessarily mean it is connected to the car accident. Do you have dreams, flash backs or worries to do with the car accident? If you do it probably means there may be a link.
It is probably helpful to talk with a therapist and your doctors about why you think you are depressed so they can help you best.
Pain can defiantly cause depression if it is chronic and stops you from doing the things you enjoy as well.
I hope you are feeling better soon

PTSD can be shown as depression.  Something as traumatic as a car accident can trigger a lot of different symptoms, anxiety when in a car is one.  It is nothing to get upset about, many people suffer from it.
