Hospitalisation

I am suffering from a severe depression. Last night I cried for % hours. I am 70+ and male. I want to be hospitalised, how do I go about it.

Respite could be another option.  Is a step down from hospital.

Could you not talk to your daughters and let them know how their behaviour is affecting you?
Ultimately I guess you need to accept that they need to resolve their own issues, even if it's not how you would like it to be done.

I think it's pretty selfish of them to be doing this when they could be enjoying your final years with you.  Not that 70 is old mind you.

Have you got somewhere, other than hospital, where you could stay?

Hopefully your bloods come back OK and your mood issues are easily treatable.  Therapy can also be helpful.  Having someone to talk to about stuff could make a huge difference.

Maybe you just need to concentrate on your own thing and let them do what they are.  It's sad but you can focus on stuff that you have control over.

My blood pressure was leveling out, but corresponding with a slight 'downer' they have risen slightly. Is the BP an indicator of Depression?
My next appointment is a few days away. At that time I will know my likely future. I've started some sports excersize but I did not enjoy it, still feeling tired and can't concentrate etc. You know the feelings I'm sure. Still I will keep you informed as time goes by. You have been a great help to me. Regards Dubba

Hello, I am so pleased you are beginning to feel better.  I know I cannot exist without my anti-depressant medication.  I'd be long gone by now if I didn't take it.  20 years on different medications.  When I stop, because I think I am over it, depression comes back worse each time.

I will never stop now.  I do hope you are feeling better, and can get on with your life now.

Yes, the meds could start working that fast. I've been on several through out my life and some have started working within a few days while others have taken a couple of weeks. This is such good news! I'm very happy to hear the meds are helping.
I think your BP numbers may be getting better because your depression is getting better and your not stressing as much.
I would not worry about the mood swing because you just started your meds less than a week ago. This can happen until your body gets adjusted. If it continues though talk to your Dr about it. It sounds to me like your doing great!  Take care. Remar

thank you for enquiring. I feel elated at this moment but because of that I'm worried. Only 30 odd hours ago I was in the depth of depression. Still we will see what happens. Again thank you. Dubba

24 hours on after seeing my GP. Yesterday I was really down and, as you know, looking to be placed somewhere. My GP was delighted with my BP results showing a significant movement into normallity.  Today I am bright eyed and bushy tailed, my mind is clearer than it has been for 20 years. My attitude now is I don't want or need Hospitalisation. I have only taken Fluoxetine for 5 days, surely they cannot have worked that quickly. Or should I worry about the massive mood swing? I will keep you in touch. Dubba
