How long til antidepressants leave the system?

I started taking setraline/zoloft 8 weeks ago. I began having severe pulse problems and an irregular pulse.
I have been changed to prozac 20mg which i've been on before without pulse problems.
I have been on prozac 11 days now but am still having pulse problems, last night was worse than usual.
Could it still be the zoloft or something else?

I am seeing a cardiologist just incase but the appointment is not coming soon enough, please advise.

Thanks Yvonne x

Sertraline is prone to affect your heart.  When I was on it I was monitored with ECG.  I am now on a different anti-depressant.  Prozac did not agree with me at all and it made me hyper active with terrible anxiety.

Do you think prozac is causing these problems?  Unlikely it is withdrawal from Sertraline after 2 months.  You should discuss this with your doctor.  Your prozac dosage is very low, so it is probably not that.  Nevertheless, what you are feeling is a worry.  Looks like the cardiologist will give you the answer.  The problem is now you are getting stressed about waiting so long for the appointment, and that is not helping, and stress and anxiety will give you bad palpitations.

Try and stay as calm as you can.  Easier said than done, I know, as twice this year I have had long waits to see a consultant.  Hang on in there.

Let me know what cardiologist says, when you get results.

Good luck, and take care.

Thinking of you.

Hi,

Still in the group of ssri's, i did read that antidepressants can cause heart issues but was on citalopram for years. Tried various others with fast pulse.
Setraline about 10wks ago. Was awful, racing pulse, breathless, irregular pulse.
Was changed to prozac 3 weeks ago but still having problems.Thought the setraline be out my system by now.
If the prozac keeping it going then i don't understand why didn't affect me before,

Thanks will look site up.

Hi Yvonne

Are these two anti-depressants in the same group eg SSRI's if not and you have been changed from one group to another you will be experiencing withdrawals as they work on different parts of the brain.
My Dr changed me from an SSRI efexor to dolsulipin a tricyclic and I had been on the SSRI one for 8 years and it's nearly 6 months and I still wake with palps and running to the loo, seems to be settling down abit though. I am on a mild beta blocker to stop palps.
Look up Cita it's a support group that help people like us.
Good Luck

Hope you feel better with the prozac.  Strange how we react differently to anti-depressants.  I have been on many different ones, as I have had depression for 20 years.  I am glad prozac works for you.  How are your palpitations now?  Do you think it is anxiety?
