Depressed and anxious

Is there any medication that would take care of both depression & anxiety (panic attacks)?  My neuro prescribed Trazadone but that just made me sedated and I felt "weird", couldn't sleep, and my heart was beating really fast.  Now I just take Xanax 1 mg/day which calms me down but I've been feeling very down, depressed, not enjoying things I used to, it's interfering with my daily life.  My health insurance doesn't start until November and I'm broke from paying ER bills, etc. so please no lectures about seeing a "shrink" now.  It'll have to wait.....

Thanks!!

I do hope what the doctor prescribed helps with your anxiety.  Glad you are feeling calmer already.  I really hated the feeling of anxiety.  Thought I would explode with the feeling.

I am lucky that Effexor has taken all that away.

The doc prescribed Klonopin (clonazepam) 0.5 mg twice/day for anxiety and Lexapro 10mg
I told him about the Effexor because I don't have any motivation or zest for life but he insisted that Lexapro was the way to go. (I bet he gets a nice commission from the pharma com. for prescribing that) anyway...it costs $132/month!! cause my health insurance doesn't start until 11/1

So far, the Klonopin makes me calm, I only took 0.025 in the morning. Don't wanna be drugged at work ;) but will take it with me just in case.

When I was having severe anxiety attacks I started taking lorazepam. After a few months the anxiety attacks stopped.
I would take one about an hour before bed and it would help me to sleep, which helped to combat depression, and one any time I started to feel an anxiety attack coming on.
That was a good choice for me because I couldnt find a good match with traditional antidepressants. They made me angry and suicidal. Unfortunately what works for one person may not help another so it could be trial and error.

Thanks for the info!  I'll ask my doc about it on Wednesday to see if this would be a good option for me.

I had terrible anxiety along with my depression.  I found that Effexor has worked on both.  I am on 150mg.  Only thing is, if you ever want to come off it, withdrawal is bad.
