New to LEXAPRO

I have never taken any antidepressants, I have an RX for Lexapro. I would say I am mildly depressed with some anxiety. Is anyone on Lexapro with good things or bad to offer me before I start taking it. I guess I'm apprehensive to start it.

Lexapro seems to work well for me.

Just getting off it when the time is right is hard for me.

quote,"   Truth is that it's really not that big a deal. It's not like it will alter your personality or change who you are at the core. These kind of drugs just don't work like that,"

Im sorry, this is a reassuring comment, but its not true for every person who takes lexapro..... if depression is left untreated it can become life threatening.. but EVERY medication has its risks and benefits... here is a website with more information about lexapro and ALL SSRI's and their relatives.. Please know I am not sharing this to frighten you or anyonelse,, but only to make you aware so that you feel empowered from the first day to be aware of any strange out of character behaviors or thoughts you may encounter. Knowlege IS power...

Suicidality, violence and mania caused by selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors(SSRIs): A review and analysis Peter R. Breggin101 East State Street, No. 112, Ithaca, NY 14850, USA Abstract.

Evidence from many sources confirms that selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) commonly cause or ex-acerbate a wide range of abnormal mental and behavioral conditions. These adverse drug reactions include the followingoverlapping clinical phenomena: a stimulant profile that ranges from mild agitation to manic psychoses, agitated depression, obsessive preoccupations that are alien or uncharacteristic of the individual, and akathisia.

Each of these reactions can worsen the individual’s mental condition and can result in suicidality, violence, and other forms of extreme abnormal behavior. Evidence for these reactions is found in clinical reports, controlled clinical trials, and epidemiological studies in children andadults. Recognition of these adverse drug reactions and withdrawal from the offending drugs can prevent misdiagnosis and theworsening of potentially severe iatrogenic disorders. These findings also have forensic application in criminal, malpractice, and product liability cases.

I take Lexapro, and I get good results with a lower dose than prozac.  I did have headaches when I would go up in dose--10mg increases--but after a few weeks--headaches went away. Don't be sad:)

I took Lexapro for 3 years and LOVED it.  It is one of the "cleanest" anti-depressants around, meaning it has fewer side effect and is one of the safest to take.  It worked wonders for me but I relapsed into a bad depression in October of 2007 while on them.  I needed a back up to Lexapro but most people dont.  Don't fret.  Lexapro is a good, clean, dependable medication that will hopefully help you to feel better.
