You describe possible symptoms of depression. The best thing for you to do is see your doctor, expain what has been going on. He/she will do a thorough assessment to rule out any medical problems that could be the cause of your symptoms. Then, he/she will determine if perhaps you are dealing with some depression, and then share with you some treatment options.
Sleep apnea usually presents as a lot of interrupted sleep, if you have a partner, he/she would notice very loud snoring and periods where you are not breathing (this is usually pretty obvious). It would be easy for your doctor to rule this out (or diagnose it) with a sleep study. Sleep apnea is becoming more and more common, especially with the number of people who are obese or morbidly obese (a main contributing factor). Despite sounding scary, it usually is not dangerous in any way, and is easily remedied by wearing a C-PAP or Bi-PAP mask at night, which works by helping to regulate your breathing. Your doctor would prescribe whichever was appropriate. Sometimes, the masks aren't necessary if the sleep apnea is mild.
Another possibility that stands out to me based on your description is derealization or depersonalization, which is a common side effect of anxiety (and sometimes depression). Do some searching on this site about both of those to get a better idea of what it is. It may be something you are dealig with due to a new onset of depression.
Definitely make an appointment to get in to see your doctor to sort this out and figure out what you're dealing with.
I do not have any history of being on anti-depressants or any medication.
How do I ask a doctor on this site?
I've looked up dissociation and I feel like there's this sense of detachment physically and mentally. I mean this in a way where I just feel like a shell doing normal things and lack emotion or a sense of investment. In other words, I'm feeling apathetic.
Hi, Have you been diagnosed with depression? Are you on any medication that can make you feel like this, or is this a recent problem?
The depression forum will help you with queries about depression, but sleep apnea is something else. Have you tried asking the doctors on this site? They may be able to help.
What do you mean you may be suffering from dissociation?
It sounds like you may have depression. We are not Drs here so none of us can diagnose you. Can you get in to see your Dr soon? Tell him/her how you've been feeling. There is also a possibility of you having sleep apnea. Your Dr can run a sleep test on you to see if this is what's going on.
