You are right about the act of taking the xanax relieving the panic attacks. Knowing relief is on the way helps.

Xanax is really fast.  Someone else could confirm, but I think it is the fastest.  It is what I carry for panic attacks since you want immediate relief.  Just the act of taking it will probably calm you down because you know that relief is on the way.  Good luck.

How fast does Xanax start to kick in?
because my anxiety hits me immediately if i see someone i saw once from school
(which is common in my little town)
all the world seems to melt away as i see them laugh aloud at the sight of me,
smiles are like loaded guns and their laughs are killin me

Propanolol is rarely used for anxiety.  It's more commonly prescribed for blood pressure, cluster headaches, and high blood pressure, and tremors.  It is not a long lasting drug and almost always requires 2 a day. Also, one big side effect of this is weight gain. All of these meds are addictive.

All what you are feeling is what I am going through right now and out of all the meds I have been through Efexor xl is the best so far and works well quick its also known as Venlafaxine.

Prozac is ****, the above is an anti depressant and anxiety drug all in one. Propananol as an anxiety drug works if you take it daily and diazipan but that is addictive and very rarely handed out unfortunately.

Lexapro, Cymbalta, Prozac the list goes on and on.  But only a psychiatrist can determine what is best for you.  It really doesn't matter what others are on, or how they are doing on it.  What works for one, doesn't for another.

Sounds like you have a lot more going on than just the anxiety.

If your looking just to put a patch on the anxiety then most drugs in the Benzodiazaphine family do a pretty good job, but they will not help the depression.

I take Xanax for my anxiety, but it only works for a few hours and is very addictive.

Lorazipam, Xanax, Klonopin.  Dont know if I spelled them all correctly.

Xanax works quickest.

There are many drugs to treat this, but only a psychiatrist would know which would be best for you. But you sound very depressed also, I think it would be good for you to see someone, get on medication and disuss what is going on. You may know this, but the anxiety  or panic attacks you suffer from is the "fight or flight" feeling we all get when scared, it's just coming at the wrong time.  When you feel one starting, get busy doing something, do not try and "sit it out".  Pay attention that you are breathing deeply, in thru your mouth and out your nose.  Talk yourself down, calmly, saying this is anormal body reaction happening when it's not needed.  Do your best to stay calm and the best way to do this is by staying busy during one, being scared makes it worse.  These attacks cause a rush of adrenaline, and being busy gives the adrenaline something to do.
These are tough on you, I know because I've experienced them and had to go on medication, my son (38) chooses to work thru his.  Why do you feel people look at you like some kind of monster?  You're not alone, truly.  All of us on here have been there many times, and are here to support and listen to you.  Talking about things can also be very therapeutic. I hope you don't feel that moving will end your problems, it won't. Sometimes we think it will, but the problem lies within us.  Please seek help with this.  You deserve to live a long, happy life, and can. Hate will only hurt you and no one else, it's eats you up inside.  Try to remember that you are the only one in control of your feelings, do not allow others to have this kind of power over you.  Accept what you cannot change, and change what you can.  I know it's not easy, and sounds cliche', but I am speaking from experience.  I've been there and back, and hate to see someone who feels so lost and alone.  I know it was difficult to write about how you are feeling, but it's a giant step in the right direction.  Stay with us thru this, we all DO care.
