Paxil

I have been on 20mg of paxil for 10 years.  I have had some changes in my life( new boyfriend and elderly mom giving me problems) recently I have started having panic attacks and feeling down again.  Do I need a change or increase in my meds.

Hi Pat! I know how you're feeling! I've dealt with depression for 20 some years. Don't suddenly stop the Paxil (I'm sure you know that) I finally found a new drug called Fetzima and its for depression and anxiety! You have lots of energy too! I took prozac for many years and then it just didn't work, so I'm very excited about Fetzima!! It's for major depression! Hope to hear back from you, and don't give up! :) Yankeegal

No way to answer that for us -- taking a drug doesn't cure the underlying problem, and it doesn't cure every emotional difficulty -- there will still be bumps in the road.  But it's possible it's pooped out, which would indicate a higher dosage or new med.  But be warned -- if you decide to change, you must very slowly taper off the Paxil first, as slowly as you need to.  But as to dosage, I would think, if this continues, this would be something your psychiatrist should be consulted about.
