Well, actually, most drugs don't fix what's wrong -- they just mitigate the symptoms. Very few drugs are cures for the problem. No drug for mental illness yet discovered cures the illness as nobody knows what causes the illness. The drugs just make you feel better, they don't "fix" the problem. You still need to pursue that "fix," either through therapy or some other modality.
It all depends on the individual and their particular needs. Remember that the main aim of prescription drugs of any sort is to fix something in the body that goes wrong. Therefore, each person has different needs and need drugs to solve the problem. What works for one patient might not work for another. Talk to your therapist and get more information :-)
Take care always,
Anna
Our bodies don't metabolize drugs the same. Some the body lets go through, some the body doesn't. This can be due to various factors, such as liver metabolites, but that's why there's seldom one drug for anything. And why in clinical trials drugs don't work as much of the time as you would think -- any given antidepressant works about a third of the time, for example. So be glad there's more than one drug out there.
