Talk to your doctor, or slowly reduce the dosage over the course of a month.. Xanax and similar drugs have quite lengthy withdrawal periods.
Are you seeing a psychiatrist/psychologist now?
High doses of xanax are dangerous and not effective for depression or childhood trauma. It can actually make you more depressed and cause other side effects.
You need to work with a qualified psychiatrist and attend therapy sessions for the trauma you experienced. Find a good, qualified doctor and still with him/her for the long term. Let us know how you are making out!
You have not been on xanax long and haven't taken it a lot. Therefore you should be able to stop without much problem. Cut to .25 per day for a few days and then stop.
Keep in mind that if you are still experiencing anxiety/depression then these symptoms may return and you may feel the effects again of what xanax was keeping at bay.
I wouldn't be so concerned about the withdrawals because you haven't been on it so long or in high dosage, but do wean off it as slowly as you can.
Only stop taking it with your doctors permission so you are sure it's time to come off.
Depression is my middle name, I am still dealing with trauma from my childhood, have seen a number of psychiatrists, psychologists,, was prescribed so many anti Depressants, not enough room to list them all.
I have been on Xanax since 1988, 1g 3 times a Day, does not work anymore, can't even sleep. Advice please.
Thank you.
Go back to your doctor who prescribed and get him or her to help you get off it it properly, i think that way you will have a better result and you will know what to expect and they can give you there expert opinions, as i am not a doctor and i wouldn't want to tell you something wrong and have you suffer more.
