Hi,
Yep, agree with the other replies. Seizures do not occur due to depression. They most commonly go with epliepsy. Some drugs can deal with both, such as Lamictal.
Either way though this doc is lying through his teeth. Either to you or your mother. As such he should be replaced.
Gabapentin ( neurontin ) is an anticonvulsant ( anti-seizure ) med. that is used off-label to treat mood disorders such as anxiety and depression. Could this be the drug the Dr. Is giving your mother?
I've experienced palsy that mimics stroke when under stress, but I have an underlying neurological problem. With all due respect to the Dr., he seems to be out of his league. Sounds like your mom should see a phychaitrist. He will be able to help sort it out.
I totally agree. It's not right for your mom to be on seizure medication if she's not having seizures. You truly need a second opinion.
That doesn't sound like anxiety or depression. You might think of changing to another doctor who is a neuroloogist who could do a full day (and night time) EEG test to determine if break through seizures are occuring and if so what kind and what medication might be needed.
