Zoloft Reaction

Hi,

I have been on 25 mg. of Zoloft for one week, then 50 for about 6 days.  Because of the bad side effects - increased anxiety, sleeplessness, chest pressure/pain, feeling of disconnectedness, loss of weight, I was told I could just quit cold turkey.  Is that a good idea?  I've only been on the med for 13 days.  I'm reading scary stuff about weaning off the drug.  My doc also wants to prescribe Cymbalta, but I'm afraid to take anything else....

Thanks,
Carol

i had the same exact reaction to zoloft. i am now on week 7 and feel so much better. if you are able to stick it out with the side effects...you will get better. i also had chest pains, feelings of being disconnected, sleepless nights (i still have them), and dizziness...everything has stopped except the sleeping problem. i take a benadryl or melatonin before bed and i can usually sleep for 6 hours or so. i hope you feel better soon.

Are you taking  Zoloft for both anxiety and depression? It's not uncommon to have side effects the first few weeks. But, we're all different and respond to these meds differently. Zoloft might not be a good med for you. With you being on it for around 2 weeks you might be fine just quitting it cold turkey.  Do you know anything about Cymbalta? It's one of the more stimulating antidepressants and it really does'nt help with anxiety much. This is from my own experience and from others here at Medhelp. If you do have anxiety you might want to ask your Dr about a different med.
