I was on Zoloft for a number of years and was fine on it. I took it for depression and it did not change me in any way at all. I have been on lots of different antidepressants for over 20 years and I am still the same person. Don't think my brain has in any way changed. I have definitely never suffered with mania.
I am now off anti depressants and feeling really great. I am so sorry you have had a bad experience with Zoloft. We all react differently to drugs. Hope you feel better soon and have full support of your doctor. I must say changing a person from depression to bipolar with drugs is all new to me. I must be one of the lucky people. I do sympathise with you, must be very hard.
Take care
I have been diagnosed with bipolar by my psychiatrist. zoloft definitely change my brain chemistry as does all antidepressant medicine.mayo clinic states that Zoloft causes mania but does it cause mania in people with out former depression. thank you CRSeside
Hello, is that at all possible? Do you think that taking an anti depressant has made you bipolar? What does your doctor say? Usually a person is diagnosed with depression or bipolar.
Hope someone on this site has an answer for you.
Hi Jdrake. Bipolar Disorder isn't something that you acquire in the way you are thinking. It's widely considered to be a chemical imbalance in the brain.
That said, Psychiatrists do misdiagnose mental patients.
Does that help?
