I have never experienced any benifit from any AD medication in just 3 to 4 days. Two weeks on any medication is about the soonest I have experienced a lift in mood.

On the other hand I have experienced some side effects from AD medication after only a couple days of taking it.

Yes, the side effects usually lessen in degree and severity after a few weeks, but there is a good chance you may always have some minor side effects for the entire time your taking the meds.

The dry mouth thing is one side effect that I have never been without. It's almost always there with these kinds of medications. Hard candy and Diet Coke are my best friends.

Give it a while and that itching thing should go away.

Just keep in mind that ALL psycotropic types of medications have side effects (BAR NONE) and to the degree in which you will get them just depends on your personnal biology. For example; I can take any AD medication on the market and not get side effects that are too severe, or as I call them "deal breakers." BUT, the one I can not tolerate is Cymbalta because it gives me horrible side effects that are too many to count.

On the other hand I know many people that only get a few minor side effects from Cymbalta. Just kind of depends on the person.

Notice how I called them "deal breakers." With these meds you have to ask yourself, "are my side effects worse than the symptoms of my untreated depression and anxiety?" If the answer is yes, then you should switch meds or get off them.

For example; In my case, I get dry mouth and bad constipation as side effects of my AD meds, but this is a fair trade for me. Without my meds, I can not function, can't get out of bed, can't work, I feel constant doom and irrational fear, have panic attacks, feel out of it and tired, and many other nasty depressive symptoms that are too numerous to mention.

Do I feel good about that trade off? You better believe I do. I will suffer almost ANY side effect not to feel my severe depression at full force. It's honestly the most horrific feeling in the world. So you see this trade off is not a deal breaker for me.

I don't know what the severity of your depressive condition is so only you can decide if it's a fair trade for you.

Namaste,

Celexa is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It works by restoring the balance of serotonin, a natural occuring substance found in the brain, which helps to improve certain mood problems.

Celexa is used to treat depression.

As with most SSRI's it may take 6-8 weeks before the full benefits of the medication are seen.

As for side effects, most dissipate after using the medication for a couple of weeks. If however, they fail to go away or are extremely bothersome, you should mention it to you healthcare provider for advise.
