depression is back: zoloft or lexapro?

4 years ago I had my first phase of depression and anxiety and I have been on lexapro 10mg and xanax .25mg each morning since. 2 month ago I asked my doctor to reduce the lexapro because I was totally happy and over the depression. I went down to 5mg and I also took some diet pills 2 months after reducing the dose and the combination of these pushed my over the edge and the depression is back. my doctor increased the dose to 20mg of lexapro ans .75 xanax when necessary . Now another problem is that I panic over my health and I feel sorry for myself and it feels like I cannot think of ANYTHING ELSE and I am still depressed after a month of dosage increase.
another doctor told me that Zoloft is better since it will also deal with obsession (over health) and that Lexapro should have been working and it is not.
my question is that since lexapro was working for 3 years, should I go with another medication with it's own risk of side effects or should I simply wait more?
I also feel sleepy all the time.

I say try Zoloft, if it failes to give 100% relief the add Effexor XR with the Zoloft. Low dosage 75Mgs a day XR. It will kick the depression in the ***, which in turn usually reduces the Anxiety. A good Combo, Just my Opinion.

My symptoms were much like yours so I'm just telling you what worked for me for a good long while.

Namaste,

Zoloft is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Zoloft affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression, panic, anxiety, or obsessive-compulsive symptoms.

Zoloft is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

Lexapro is used to treat anxiety and major depressive disorder.

As you can see Zoloft is used to treat OCD whereas Lesapro is used to treat anxiety, so that is why your doctor recommended trying Zoloft.

You can give it a try and if it is ineffective, talk with your doctor about alternatives.

Let us know how you are doing and take care of yourself!!

Michael
