Jittery on Prozac, now Zoloft

Hi, I'm new here.  Took Prozac for 7 weeks for depression.  1st two weeks on 10 mg, 2nd two weeks on 20 mg. was so jittery doc put me back on 10 mg. for the next 3 weeks.  Jitters never stopped so I was switched to Zoloft the next day.  Started at 25 mg for a week.  Jitters seem to be fading with the Prozac leaving my system.  The 2nd week I was raised to 50 mg.  jitters are back!!!  Thought I might try to ride it out for a week or so, but maybe these are not for me????

Thank you.  I called the doc and she said to give it the full week on the 50 mg and if it wasn't better by then to go back to the 25 mg and we'll go slower. Hope it works!!

Prozac is considered a stimulating antidepressant.  Zoloft not so much, but we all react differently.  Any of them can be too stimulating for us.  Prozac takes a long time to leave the system, about a month, whereas the other ssris and snris leave in a matter of hours.  That also probably makes it easier to stop taking, which is why it's a good one to start out on.  I'd probably tell the doc to slow down the taper up on Zoloft -- maybe you can get used to it that way.

Antidepressants can sometimes cause reactions like this. I had a psychotic break on Prozac so consider yourself lucky in that department. My advice is to tell your doctor as soon as possible, if the medication is making you jittery it probably isn't for you. There are many other types of antidepressants out there to try. Psychiatry is built on trial and error.
