i take 75 mg.. my mom takes 225mg... it depends on how much you actually need.. everyone starts out on 37.5 and they work up from there.. i noticed a difference in dosage almost immediately.. if you still arent feeling good, you may have to continue to go up on dosage.. i would give it a week or two and then if you arent noticing a difference, talk to your doctor =-) best wishes

I never saw any addition results until I went up to 150 mg.  It did take a couple of weeks to really feel the difference.

I havent been on effexor but my daughter has.She didnt like it much and switched to celexa.
I have been on many other meds(I am bi polar) before I got the combo of celexa zyprexa.
Keep close tabs on your med and talk to your doc if you feel like it isnt working. You may have to try a different one.But do give the effexor time to do its thing which is to help you feel good and healthy.

it also says on some websites that the average dose of effexor is 75mg but the effective dose is 125-150mg, what does that mean? Is it saying that 75mg doesn't work as well?

yer descrip is a bit mysterious......usually takes 36 to 48 hrs for a dosage change to be effective as the body only absorbs it so much at a time, this is why most anti dep. and the like take up to 2 mos to be totally effctive.give it a chance my friend.....any signs of probs, call the doc asap. here 4 ya, 'core

Everyone is different but give at least 4 week.Could be sooner could take more but give it time.It took my combo of meds about 6 weeks to kick in although I started feeling better about a week after taking them.I am bi polar so I take 2 meds.
Hang in there and give it time ok?
