I've taken wellbutrin at least 10 year, how do I stop taking it?  How long does it take to taper off completely?

Obviously only you know how serious your depression is without meds, but I want to caution you that some people get seriously depressed and others have serious withdrawal going off antidepressants. When I went off effexor after 11 years, I did not get depressed, but I suffered severe brain zaps, vertigo spells, ringing in my ears, and the list goes on. Everyone is different and will respond differently. I dont know you, but a lot of shrinks say you need to be on it for life, and my theory is it keeps them in business. My cardiologist told me to get off the effexor I was on asap. Now some doctors are saying 6 months for antidepressants, then you should wean off. THis is the trick question. Will you be able to function as you wean off it and once you are weaned off it? Will you suffer sever issues from you condition or will it be from withdrawal and they mistake it for your condition? Will you suffer nothing at all? My suggestion is to contact this organization that I am not afflicated with, but they can tell you if nothing else, where to find a doctor in your area that will work with you to get OFF the drug safely.  (let them know thats your main purpose in contacting them). They sell products but dont feel obligated, just ask them simply for a local doc. Usually an integrated doctor is your best bet. I will pm you the website since we are not allowed to post links.

I'm 53 years old.  I get checked about every 6 months.  The psychiatrist has told me that I will need to take it forever.  I am not depressed. My first major depression was when I was in my mid thirties.  I went on and off anti depressant meds.  According to the doc, my body won't produce the hormones that the meds do.  Since I am getting older, I am concerned about possibly being on more meds as I get older.  I am a personal trainer.  Until about 6 wks ago, I  did weight training and cardio workouts at least 5 days per week.  I started having tiredness, aches & pains.  I had blood tests for thyroid, kidney & blood counts.  Everything came back normal.
