This caught my attention since I just weaned myself off of the effexor because of the severe tiredness and not feeling any emotion at all. I feel 100% better being off of the medication. I do not sleep all the time and I actually laugh and have fun again.
Of course, you should not go off of the meds unless you are supervised by the physician and it is not severe depression. I feel that the doctors just prescribe the depression meds just to make money.
I went on the meds for depression back when I had my son for postpartum. I had asked the doctor several times to take me off of the meds but he just always suggested that the one I was taking was not working and to try a different med. I tried 5 different meds and they all made me tired and emotionless.
This time I made the decision to not take the new med cymbalta that he had given me to take in place of effexor. Going off of effexor was the worst experience, but when I was done with the meds, I felt like I had made a wonderful accomplishment.
The meds cause many side effects. Read the insert that comes with the meds so that you are very aware as to what the effects are and what the effects of going off the meds are. The doctor will not explain any of the side effects or withdrawl effects since they do not understand themselves.
I hope this has helped.
Mental and physical exhaustion can be a symptom of the depression and/or the meds. Contact your doctor and let him know about your symptoms, as he may want to try something else. Not any one med is good for all depression. Example: I have what they call manic depression and they put me on Wellbutrin once. After 4 weeks on it I wanted to kill someone, I was soooo angry and edgy. Come to find out because I was manic, one of the side effects of Wellbutrin was to cause these symptoms and no one who is manic should take it. Well, lo and behold! They put me on prozac and I was a totally different person. Exercise until you can get hold of your doc and discuss it with him. Hugs
I'm sorry you are feeling so bad. Your post caught my eye because I also want to switch back to Effexor xr from Pristiq, since I've been significantly more depressed on Pristiq.
Call your doctor and ask to try something else. (What else have you tried?) I'm going to do that this week, as well as making an appointment with a counselor. I need some help!
More physical activity would be good for you, even if you have to force yourself. Maybe you can do that without having to go to the gym? With as tired as you are, I wouldn't add the stress of another job!
Let me know how you are doing!
