If the Welbutrine alone is working for you then that's great because Welbutrin has a much lower occurance of adverse side effects than most other AD medications.

This is one reason why some doctors select Welbutrin as a "first line" stand alone antidepressant.

I'm not saying that no one responds to Welbutrin alone. Some do.
For more severe cronic forms of depression and anxiety, Welbutrine alone seldom offers complete remission of symptoms.

For example; a person whos severe depression and anxiety dissorder are the result of norephinepherine depletion in the brain, then Welbutrin will do little if nothing to help.

Sorry, but that's just a Psycopharmalogical fact.

I think it's also very important to change the mind set that all doctors are God and always make the correct medication choices for us patients.

I personnaly know people on this forum that were prescribed very dangerous combinations of antidepressants by their doctor.

Several years ago a doctor prescribed me both Effexor XR and Cymbalta at very high dosage and instructed me to take both together for several months.

This combination landed me in the hospital.

I'm not saying that for a doctor to first try Welbutrin as a stand alone antidepressant is a bad idea. In fact if Welbutrin alone works for that person then thats even better.

I'm just saying that when it comes to more severe and cronic forms of depression and anxiety, welbutrin alone seldom is effective enough.

Why do doctors prescribe it then if it doesn't work well alone? My doc, who I consider top-rate, started me on it.

Yes, some people can absolutly build tolerance for Welbutrin as well as most other antidepressants.

In many cases when this happens, an increase in dosage doesn't do a whole lot.

My problem with Welbutrin in general is that it mainly targets doapamine receptors in the brain and does little to address other neurotransmitters in the brain that can play an even larger part in depression and Anxiety.

IMO Welbutrine makes a good add on mendication to an SSRI or SNRI, but alone I just don't see enough people reporting success with it over the long term.
