Thank you... I switched dr.about 6 years ago and because I was already on it they didn't question it because it is a cocktail of sorts to treat Essential Tremors.  Yesterday was bad never felt a rage like I did but having a hard time with being dizzy and quick movements which I am trying to avoid. The first GP gave me effexor thinking it was more anxiety because of the shaken and a high stress job I figured they knew better than I  and because it did help a little and tremors were not as bad.  It wasn't for another year and a half that I was diagnosed with ET from an actual neurologist and was given additional meds to take with the effexor. It had the desired effect or so I thought. Now more lost than before

Try threatening your doc with malpractice if this is a last resort.  This is well known as one of the most difficult meds to stop taking on a slow taper, let alone cold turkey, and withdrawals can last a long time in some people.  You really want to quit slowly if you decide you want to quit.  GPs are pretty clueless in the main when it comes to any medication, but especially ones that affect the brain, but even the most clueless doc should know you don't play around with Effexor.  By the way, who prescribed it in the first place?  If not your GP you refer to here, then the doc who has been prescribing it should give you enough to tide you over until you're able to find a psychiatrist who knows how to do this safely.  Of course, you could be lucky and this could pass quickly -- it does for many people -- but why take the risk?  Good luck.
