Yes Ability is an antipsychotic as well. It works a bit differently from Seroquel. Abilify can often be activating instead of sedating (although it can be sedating on occassion) but is generally less sedating than Seroquel and has less of a potential to cause weight gain. Each person responds differently to each medication though.
Thank you any how Opus88. I appreciate everything you had to say!!!! Charlotte885
sorry Charlotte I don't know anything abt Abilify at all....maybe someone else on here can answer that question for you.
Yes give the seroquel more time, they all need a few months to really tell if they are going to work for you or not...the first while all you feel are the side effects and that passes...good luck to you that you will feel better real soon.
another med i"m on is abilify. i just started it ,could you tell me if you have heared of this med and any comments?
I have only been on it for about 1 month so it's still getting into my body. the feed back you gave me was really helpful as i thought it just was'nt working 'just making me a zoombie.......I will take what you had to say and really think about it and give it more time before changing. thank you I'll mention it to my doctor though.
Hi my son is also on seroquel and at a high dose(sorry can't remember now exactly how much so I won't quote).
Yes this is an anti-psychotic and used to lower the mania.
He started this med in early June (not the first time) his P-doc told him to take it at 6pm because he had to be at work by 7a.m...and it takes that amount of time minimum to wear off enough to wake up and be functional.
This lasted approx 6-8 weeks than he found he needed less and less sleep.
after being on it for approx. 3 months in fact he needed an extra amount at bedtime inorder to fall asleep!
this of course will effect everyone differently, take your meds as early as you can if you need to get up in the morning this should become less sedating to you soon.
good luck.
thank you for your advise. I take it at night wright know. i really hope it works as i'm tired of changing medications.Have you heard of something good that help and that drug group? thank you for taking your time and answering me.
Seroquel is an anti-psychotic medication. Yes, in most people it does make them very sleepy. 14 hours a night not abnormal for someone taking Seroquel if they are sensitive to it or new to the drug.
May I suggest asking your P-doc about Seroquel XR. It is an extended release formula of the drug and should be easier for you to tolerate. Many people report that after switching to the XR formula that they can take it during the day once they get used to the drug.
