Yes you can take Clonazepam with Effexor XR.
This is not an unusual combination.
Although I must beg to differ with ettebette regarding, "if your doctor prescribed it then it must be safe."
I strongly dissagree with this assumption that just because a doctor or even Psychiatrist says a medication combination is safe, that you should always trust them.
Doctors and Psychiatrist make mistakes much more often than you may think. I personnaly know several people that were almost killed by doctors that prescribed dangerous combinations of Psychotropic medication to them.
For example: two SSRI medications should never be taken in conjunction with each other, yet I have seen doctors prescribe both Prozac and Zoloft to one person. She was almost killed because she developed Serotonin Syndrome as a result.
I have seen doctors prescribe pain medication like Tramadol with an SSRI. This can also result in Serotonin Syndrome. I hate to break the news to people that trust doctors with full faith. Sorry, but they are not always right and they often do make mistakes.
I once had a Psychiatrist that prescribed me Effexor and Cymbalta and told me to take both meds. True story I kid you not!
Anyway, yes you can take Effexor and the benzodiazaphine at the same time. No risk at all from that combo.
Has your doctor prescribed this for you and said it's o.k.? I take 300 mg of Effexor XR every day, and .5mg of clonazepam in the morning, and 1 mg at bedtime, and I'm fine. He just recently added Wellbutrin to the regimen. I'm wondering why you are asking this. If you doctor prescribed this for you, he/she must feel it's safe for you to take. I'd like to know more. Write me back if you'd like.
Blessings,
Ellen
