For a long time i am thinking thoughts that i am a bad person and no one likes me. i also wake up feeling guilty about things for no reason everyday, like i upset someone the night before but actually didnt upset anyone. thinking people are talking about me when i am out and stuff. i have had depression a while ago and tried to commit suicide during that time i also drink alot now it seems to take the anxiety away.is this a sign of schitzophenia or some other similar  illness. thanks.

I have been treated for psychotic depression.  My Dad has schizophrenia.  You sound like me before I got treatment.  It is just a severe form of depression.  if you had schizophrenia and were not on medication, you wouldn't have been able to write that post so it is not schizophrenia.

But very treatable, so get help and do not suffer on as it will hardly get better on its own.

Actually I have schizhoaffective disorder and that sounds like what you are talking about. Schizoaffective is schizophrenia with a mood disorder, in my case bipolar but as you are describing depression. I would speak to a psychiatrist. Schizoaffective disorder is actually more common than schizophrenia and more easily treated. You could also have depression with psychotic features. I could explain the difference between the two but a psychiatrist could explain it. That is probably what is going on. As for onset of the mental illness in life there are more common age ranges but that doesn't mean you couldn't acquire one at any time in life. Additionally, you should have a referral to a recovery group for people who have a mental illness and have an issue with alcohol/substance abuse because there are two forms of recovery you are dealing with now. For a primary contact information and referral as regards psychiatrists this would work. http://www.****.***

While I'm sure that people with Schizophrenia may experience some of the symptoms you described, that doesn't mean that you have Schizophrenia. Those symptoms can also be caused by Severe Depression.

What is your age? It is very, and I mean VERY rare for anyone to develope Schizophrenia after the age of about 20.

Depression and Schizophrenia are two very different illnesses.

People with Severe untreated Depression can also suffer from mild to moderate delusions and irrational thinking.

For example a person suffering from depression will fully understand in his or her mind that the irrational thoughts they are experiencing are not really true, but these thoughts will still be fearful for them just the same. On the other hand a person suffering from Schizophrenia may also have irrational thoughts, but thier mind actually fully thinks they are true, even though they are totally absurd. They have difficulty connecting what is actually real and what is imagined.

Either way, you really should seek the help of a professional to help you get control of your problem.
