stress before birth

Can massive amounts of stress before you give birth lead to postpartum depression?

While the children are in school, is it possible for you to go out with the baby for some fresh air or just away from the house...We are already talking snow here, but when i am stressed, I have a little chair under a tree that I sit under and just breathe deeply of that cool cool air and in a few minutes i do feel better...

My husband and I worked shifts while my kids were growing up, he would work nights and I would work 3-11 so that someone would always be home with the boys...So I do know what you are saying about your husband being gone all the time...Does he work weekends also or on a rotating shift where he might get 1 or 2 days a week off to help you out....Yes, I know he is working and that is very important, but you are working too and need some help and relief...Just having him make a small meal, or do a couple of loads of wash or give the kids a bath while you put your feet up would be a real treat.  As a wife of a hard working man, I felt guilty asking my husband to help around the house because then it might seem I was not a capable wife or partner....But my resentment grew as all his free time was spent with games or TV in his own room and my resentment killed my marriage...

Does your husband know that your are feeling stressed..Have you really talked to him about your feelings, and how does he feel about the nieces and nephew that might come to live with you....Please don't be mad that I am asking this, but is it possible for the nieces and nephew to go into a short term foster care with full visitation from you and your family??

I am glad you posted again....And I do hope something I said might have helped even a little...

Wishing you the very very best.....

Well i have 4 kids already and 1 has asd... Autism spectrum disorder. She is a handful but we have been getting help. My main concern is my husband working such long hours and is not home most of the time. He works nights so i am with all 4 kids by myself when they are fresh out of school and extremely hyper. And my youngest just turned 1.  But im also dealing with the possibility that i might have to take in my 2 nieces and nephew because of a bogus abuse charge against my brother. Im actually looking for a lawyer to help. I don have a lot of money so its really hard. And im 31 weeks so its taking a pretty big toll on me. Im trying to deal.

My mom had severe PPD and was under extreme stress raising 5 children all born a year apart.  I am an avid reader of any PPD theories and studies...Stress is different for every person, what may cause extreme stress in one person may not even bother another...

Have you talked to your OBGYN about the stress you are under so that he/she can advise you about reducing that stress or at the least, keeping a dialogue open between the 2 of you in case you start showing symptoms of PPD after delivery....

Wishing you the very best

Doctors aren't 100% sure what causes PPD, there are many theories out there.  Logic would state that high levels of stress certainly wouldn't be a GOOD thing and could lead to an emotional "fall out" of sorts after delivery.

Are you having issues?  If you want to elaborate and share what's going on, we'll try to help as much as we can, both with info and support.
