Hi,
I can totally understand where you're coming from with wanting to be off wellbutrin. I was on it for a little while also, and had some side effects. I've been on alot of different meds for Major Depressive Disorder and Narcolepsy. I take them for a while, and then they slowly stop having the effect they once did. Every time I have had to switch meds, it's always taken about 2 weeks to ween off of something. You do have to do it slowly. Sometimes I am able to slowly ween on to a new drug while weening off the old one. Sometimes they don't mix well and the old one has to be gone before I can start the new one. I worry that if you try to get off the wellbutrin you could do more harm than good for yourself. I'm not sure if Zoloft and wellbutrin mix well together, so without a dr. to monitor you and tell what needs to be done, you shouldn't try to get on one while getting off the other. And if you slowly decrease the wellbutrin, it's almost like taking nothing at all. I'm not sure about you, but more than 3 days without my meds--all hell breaks loose.(and i'm not kidding).
So, my advice to you would be to try really hard to wait the 2 weeks until you see your therapist and let him/her advise you on how to go about doing it the best possible way for you. I understand you REALLY don't want to wait, you want it to be gone now, but for your well being (and maybe those around you :) ) it would be a smart decision to talk to the Dr.

I wish you good luck in whatever happens, I know how hellatious these situations can be.

I forgot!  I'm VERY glad you got a new doctor!  yay!  I hope he's a good fit for you, and takes your feelings into consideration.  Let us know how your appt with him goes.

If you are referring to my reply, I apologize if you thought I was being rude, that was certainly not my intention, and I think if you browse through some of my posts on the anxiety forum (where I am a community leader also), you'll see that "rude" is not my style.  Sometimes, I'm a bit more straight forward than at other times, depending on the situation, but I never intend to be rude.

That's one downfall of the internet, is there is no "tone" in the written word, therefore it is easy for one person to read something as sarcastic, or mean, or otherwise, while the next person reads it totally different.

I was being very honest and upfront with you, because, quite frankly, I was concerned.  The very first thing you said was that you did not have a doctor, but you had all of these big plans, to wean off one drug and start a new one (hence the question about where you would even GET the Zoloft).  There were a couple red flags raised for me, and I really don't like to see people put themselves in a precarious situation.

Also, knowing that I was the first person responding to your post, I kind of wanted to make it clear that none of us should be telling you anything but to get a new doctor, because, honestly it is never a good idea for us to play doctor (I'm not being rude there, just factual).  I was trying to "set the tone" if you will to make sure no one encouraged you to take this on own your own, hence the strong opening statement.

Again, I apologize if my post came off as rude or insensitive, I can see how it may have....which is why I'm trying to explain a bit why I said what I did.  I only ever have the posters' best interest at heart, and I'm always very concerned when people take prescription meds into their own hands, therefore my posts become a little more to the point and serious in that case.  Of course we're here to help where we can, and we all care.  I wouldn't be here posting as much as I do, for as many years as I have been doing this if I didn't.

Very best of luck to you.

She told me I was bipolar. She is wingin me off the Wellbutin and having me take a new med. The way she is doing that is making me take 1 Wellbutin ( instead of 2)  for 1 week with my new med then after 1 week I follow the dosage of the new medicine. Im not a doc either so im not saying this is what u should do but this is how im doing if. My suggestion for u would be go to a pharmacy and explain ur situation with the pharmisist and maybe they can give u a reassuring safe way to do it. Don't just stop the Wellbutin cold turkey because it could make your scary thoughts worse. When I used to take Lexapro I felt as h do on Wellbutin and it freaked me out so I quit cold turkey.....NOT A GOOD THING. I did try to hurt myself and it was bc of the side affect from not winging myself off that antidepressant. Sorry I'm rambling on...:( but I wanted to give u info on my situation. Good luck sweetie....you are strong enough to fight the earges of doing bad stuff. When u feel that way call a friend, family, a crisis hotline! U are to presious for this word to loose you!

first of all, i had a dr but my insurance stopped and i couldnt afford to see a dr and than by the time it kicked back up he wasnt available for new appts. i am on a waiting list to see a new therapist but its not till the 1st week of may, secondly, my previous dr gave me a rx for zoloft i discontinued it vie his instructions due to a bad side effect with the  comibination of wellbutrin and zololft. so i have it still left over. i cant stand being on wellbutrin anymore because i am going through a lot of crap with my borderline personality disorder, depression and anxiety, and i have had suicidal thoughts over the last week. i am eager to get to see my new dr asap but i cant because they are booked solid. and yes i did call the hotline and my former dr and nothing.

The ONLY reasonable answer for us to tell you is to find a new doctor who can guide you during this process.  How did you even come to the decision that Zoloft is what you would need?  If you don't have a doc, how would you get the Zoloft?  Have you ever had a dosage increase on the Effexor?

Really, there is a reason why most of us don't have "MD" after our names.  Doctors know their stuff, and they should be the ones making suggestions, and guiding you as to what is next.  I'm an RN and consider myself to be quite knowledgeable about meds, and even I would not attempt this myself.

Plus, you really should be tapered off ANY medication (especially meds like these) under the supervision of a doctor, for so many reasons.  Please don't try this alone, get yourself a new doctor.
