My husband and & went on a trip and when we came back our 6 y.o. son had lots of 'mosquito bites' and a red circular lesion in the inside of an ankle. At first looked like an infected mosquito or ant bite. You could see a small opening like when you scratch a lot, I treated with peroxide and neosporin as usual but after 2 weeks (i didn't think it was bad) I noticed it didn't get better. Instead the circle that has a penny-like size was more like a 'quarter size' now, it was flat and red (no pain) I tried to squish it to see if there was any puss. Nothing came out so I took him to the pediatrician. At first she said it was a fungus until I pointed out the small hole (opening) she asked a collegue to see it who inmediatly said that is a: "Cutaneous Larva Migran" They both went out and came back to "spray" the thing TWICE with what I think was Silver Nitrate (cold & white). After that his skin on that area and around is BURNED, he got a bug water blister and is all red, he has a 2nd degree burn. I thinks they took care of the worm/larva but the healing hasn't been good I think. They asked me to put hydrocortisone .1% which hurt him so I switched to the neosporin again. I did Aloe (natural) compresses, after 2 days I took him back & she prescribed 'Silvedine' I am putting that on him but I don't like how its looking:
1.- Big blister bursted & 3 other smaller formed around it (I thought it was the worm but they are filled with water - I've notice sometimes gets wet.
2.- some parts are very red-brownish & others very white peeled skin
3.- He's going to 1st grade so I cover it with a very thing sterile gauze (kind of open not flat to the skin) Still by the time he comes back home the burn looks worst.
4.-When we shower him I let water run over it and pad it dry (don't put anything on it until he goes back to sleep to let it breath and it looks better then for a while...
QUESTIONS: Was that diagnosis accurate? Was this the only and most effective treatment for a 6 y.o.?
Am I doing the right thing (abpve)? Is there anything I could do better? How would I know if its healing or not? How do we know the larvae is gone for good? How long does it takes to heal the kids skin?
Thank you in advance for your advice,
