Folliculitis, on the chin and moustache area?

hi, im a 20 year old male student. for several years i have grown "pimples" on my head, which i scratched and burst, not knowing it might aggravate the problem by spreading. a few months back, i started to get small blister-like bumps on my chin and moustache area. when burst, yellow or white pus would flow out. none occured on my lips so i think it is not herpes and i have no girlfriend.

the condition of this problem is kind of annoying, some days none would appear yet some days a few would appear over a period of hours. i would burst all of them because im quite embarrassed by it, of course i made sure to wash my hands and rinse the affected area with water.

so i did some research and i thought it might be folliculitis. i immediately thought of the recurring "pimples" on my head, i have never seen them but i have felt how they release pus when i scratched them due to the itch.

im working part time, yet to get my meager pay. i would like to ask if there are any over the counter treatment, and are there any conditions with similar symptoms, because if that is the case, i can longer assume it is folliculitis and will have to spend money to see a doctor. thanks!

My BF gets pimples in his scalp and on his face when he's stressed.  Do you notice the pimples come more often when you're under stress (tests, bills due, other sources of stress)?

If so, you may want to start some kind of meditation or yoga or massage exchanges to help relieve the stress.  Physical exercise is also a good way to release stress.

Do be sure to wash with soap and water when a pimple bursts, btw, and try not to pop them on purpose.

As for acne going away after 25 years of age, I'm 40 and I still get pimples on my face and back, usually when stressed.  It's important to keep your pores clean and open.

This may be a little off topic, but for body pimples I have used salt scrubs.

Take a plastic tub (like margerine or cool whip comes in) and pour in a bunch of salt.  Add just a little water to make the salt cling to itself, but not become watery.  Then rub that over your arms, chest, and back (get someone to do it for you is always best).  This abrades the dead skin cells and the salt kills most bacteria.  It will sting, but it's bearable.  Let the salt stay on your skin for a couple of minutes, then shower it off.  Of course it''s best to do this in the shower stall or bathtub.  You can also follow this with a steam bath, but it's not necessary.  I do this once a week and my back acne stays clear.

I would not recommend this for your face.  If you do try it, Definitely keep the salt away from your eyes.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
These sound like pimples or acne. Acne is due to an overactivity and plugging of the oil glands. The main cause of acne is increased levels of hormones during adolescence.
Acne usually lasts until age 20 or even 25. It is rare for acne to leave any scars unless picked.

Just keep you face clean by washing with a mild soap atleast twice a day.Pat it dry and do not rub it.Avoid picking or pressing the acne. You can also use Benzoyl peroxide 5% lotion or gel once at bedtime. An amount of lotion the size of a pea should be enough to cover most of your face. If your skin becomes red or peels, you are using too much of the medicine or applying it too often.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep us posted on how you are doing.
