my daughter has it and has had it since puberity, i also have it but not nearly as bad, she has been through soo much with skin problems, and her dermatologist has been treating it with cleasin(spelling is wrong) a cream and antibiotic,, she has always been on some form of antibiotic,, and she also took acutane for acne, which i feel it got worse from that,, so i took her to another doc,, he is a gi doc and he referred us to a plastic surgeon. she is scheduled for surgery in june. he will remove all of the diseased areas at once,,, maybe skin graphs were not sure but at this point its horrible!! she has it between her legs, her arm, her breasts,, she cant wear a tank top or bathing suit and its just embarassing. i have it between my legs but it isnt way out of control. i also use a exfoilating scrub in the areas and let it set a few min before rinsing,, it seems to help some... good luck i know how you feel
I have had HS for approx. 13 years. I have had multiple surgeries & multiple lesions. They started around my breasts and eventually migrated to my armpits & groin area. I haven't had alot of luck w/ treatments, but I have found a few things very helpful & thought I would share. The things I have tried somewhat successfully would be:
tanning (sometimes in the tanning bed)
salt water
baby powder
cotton clothing
I am trying to find out now if laser hair removal would be effective in treating this condition. Since they say it is often an issue w/ hair follicles, you would think that this would help. Let me know if you hear anything new! :)
Hi
You may not be asking advise for this however may I ask if you are being managed for this skin condition? Does anyone in the family also have this? You may need to have this closely followed up by your doctor
This skin condition is chronic and may persist for quite sometime. There are other factors that need to be controlled as they have been associated with hidradenitis suppurativa. Obesity is a factor , as well as heat and skin irritation. Hidradenitis suppurativa is due to blockage of apocrine glands (glands which are usually present in the axilla and the groin ). Tight clothing, sweating and intense heat may promote blockage of these glands causing hidradenitis. This skin condition is yet vaguely understood. There may be a need to locally treat the lesions. You may need to have them incised and drained for severe cases. This appears to be resistant to antibiotics.
So discuss this with your doctor so you may be guided accordingly.
i was just tol that i have it and am in stage 2. have had it for 2 years
