Lip Acne?

This is the third time in the about the last 2 months that I have gotten what appears to be a small whitehead on my lip.  It is not on the edge where the skin meets the lip...but its actually on the red part of my upper lip.  Is it possible to get acne on your actual lip?  And if so...why now...I am 39....this just started.  Or is this some form of herpes?

Thank you,

Steve

I've had the exact same thing! I've had 4 come and go separately in the past month or so.  It almost looks greyish white, just like a zit ... I'm getting so mad that they keep coming - so last time I got the tweezers and a pin and poked and squeezed it til it "popped".  The white stuff that comes out is harder than zit pus and it's almost 'waxy'.  I'd sure like someone to explain it and tell me how to prevent it

Hi,

Since when are you having the symptoms? What is your age? Do you smoke?

Some causes of the symptoms you mention, could be lip biting, lip licking, Vit.B2 deficiency, smoking, overexposure to sun and ill fitting dentures. In extreme cases, this could be due to bacterial or fungal skin infection.

You need to drink plenty of water daily – around 1.5 – 3 litres per day and eat a balanced diet. Do not keep your lips dry; apply lip balm which contains sunscreen – preferably a medicated one.

If you have cracks at the corner of your mouth it indicates B2 deficiency in this case you need to take B2 supplements.

If the symptoms still persist, consult your skin specialist or dermatologist.

Let us know about how you are doing and if you have any other doubts.

Regards.
