Perioral Dermatitis

My 9 year old has been suffering with Perioral Dermatits for 2 months now, went to docs initially about 2 weeks after it started and they gave her Batcroban Cream and Aqueous Cream, no improvement after a month so went back and they said keep using for another 3 weeks and come back if not cleared up and they would refer her to a Dermatologist.    Presume if they do this it would take months for an appointment.  I really feel for daughter as she has about 15-20 red spots around bottom of chin and don't know what to do next.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,

Perioral dermatitis is a chronic papulopustular and eczematous facial dermatitis. It is usually characterized by an uncomfortable burning sensation around the mouth. Itching is not a common symptom.Treatment consists of oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. A mild soap or soap substitute, such as Dove or Cetaphil should be used for washing. Scrubbing should be avoided.

If the symptoms are not controlled by topical antibiotics, then oral antibiotics may be needed.Pls consult your daughter’s doctors and discuss this with them.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted if you have any additional queries
