Rapid eyebrow loss (26 year old male)

Hi Doc,

I have been experiencing one of the worst experiences i've had in a long time. I'm losing my thick, confident looking eyebrows and it seems I can't do anything about it. I have hairloss on my scalp as well, and have been on 1mg finasteride and 5% minox for about 5 years now.

Just about 1 month ago however, I noticed my eyebrows were starting to fall out, from the inside (closer to my nose) moving to the outside. My left eyebrow is falling out at a greater rate than my right one. I notice an intense itching sensation in a small area (which i try not to scratch) before i lose eyebrows. I have been under a lot of extra stress lately, but i feel like my brow area is tender and somewhat burning. I've recently been tested for thyroid problems and came back clear. My doctor insists its just stress. But how is it going to get better if I get even more stressed every day when I see 3+ brows in my sink?

My eyebrow area is not red or flaky. This came on so quickly, so I'm extra worried. Also, i notice the hairs have white bulbs on them and the base of the fallen eyebrow has lost pigmentation. Any ideas? This eyebrow loss has got me more depressed than my scalp loss.

thanks alot.

Hi guys sorry to hear of your problems with hairloss of scalp and eyebrows.  Try Jamaican Black Castor Oil.  I have seen testimonials by youtube vloggers who have sworn by it.  I havtore also researched online and came across these brands: Tropic Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil which is 100% natural  (I've seen some ofd the youtube vloggers use this brand); Sunny Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil (online they say it  aids scalp, eyebrow and eyelash hair growth); Nubian Queen Pure Jamaican Black Castor Oil and Taliah Waajid Jamaican Black Castor Oil.  It is stipulated that Castor Oil has anti inflammotory and anti bacterial qualities and that Jamaican Black Castor Oil is more potent than plain Castor Oil.  I hope that this article is useful and I pray that the LORD will provide healing for you all

Hello, I have the same problem , im a student and I had too much stress , then my hair start to fall . I feel sad and crried alot when I wash it. After. I finished the course my eyebrow started to fall . I know yoyr feeling I feel exactly the same. I had a lot of blood tests to ensure that there is no problem in hormones or nutrition def. All the results were fine. No treatment worked for me. I did alot of research and I think its the stress and lack of sleep and relaxation. For my scalp im trying
Fresh garlic treatment.its better than any thing else, believe me.
For eyebrows I didnt see any result yet.
Im trying to relax as much as I can eat healthy, take supplements and be soo patient.
They will grow enshalla after a long time dont worry. They will. Be as thick as they were but you should help them by being relaxed and eat healthy. Stay away from coffee and try to use natural shampoo for scalp that contain the least amount of chemical. For your eyebrow try to put very small drop of sesame or coconut or olive oil every day before sleep. You will not notice a change but I think its benificiall. And dont worry its just a temporary problem and every thing will back. To its normal . Its like a stress related alopecia not an immune . Im still suffring but im trying to be patient . And try fresh garlic if you want. I had seen alot of doctors 3 of them said to me because of stress and too much sad.and they give just vitamins and advise me to relax and told me to be patient and its a time process.
I wish that will help and dont worry again.

thank you very much for the response. If the loss is in fact from alopecia aereta will the hairs eventually grow back (really only concerned about my eyebrows because I shave my head and am comfortable with it)? I lift weight pretty hard and thus, i'm always taking extra protein.

I will definately get on the specific nutrients you listed. It seems as though biotin always comes up in hair loss talk, so that'll be my first priority.

I've been recently washing my eyebrows with Dettol anti-septic and it seems to take care of the itching for a good few hours. Is this a bad idea? As I am in canada (and on an island) dermatologists are hard to come by. I'm trying my hardest to see one soon though.

thanks for all your help.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
What you seem to be having is alopecia aereta of scalp and eyebrows. It is an autoimmune disease characterized by unpredictable, nonscarring hair loss of the eyelashes and eyebrows. In such cases, to promote growth of eyebrows, just eat a healthy protein rich diet and take some multivitamin supplements for some days. The most important nutrients are biotin, silica, magnesium, sulfur, zinc, and vitamin B6. There are many eyebrow growth products in the market, but their efficacy has not been scientifically proven. Finally one can resort of hair transplantation also.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
