Sebaceous Prominence + Acne???

I just found out that all guys have sebaceous prominence to some degree and I do as well.  The problem is that i have recently had outbreaks of acne on the shaft of my penis.  With simple acne treatment, they will go away for a month or so and come back.  Is this normal and is there anything I can do?

If doxycyline helped your skin condition it is likely to be bacterial, rather than a food allergy. Oral antibiotics do not 'cure' acne, they supress it whilst the patient is taking the tablets. Since most people only experience acne for a brief period during puberty this is usually sufficient as the remaining bacteria will die or be killed by the immune system.
If your tendancy for acne continues repeat courses of medication may be indicated.

Doctor, do you think these patches of folliculitis could be from food allergy, like some facial acne.  Also i have taken doxycycline before and that took it away for the most part.  would starting another regiment of that help clear the infection?

Hi,

Folliculitits or inflammation of the hair follicles may occur almost anywhere in the body. They present as pimple like and sometimes associated with itchiness. This condition usually resolves on its own and recurs after some time. It is important to keep the area clean and dry. Avoid manipulation to prevent secondary infection.

Take care and regards.
