Staph infection

My granddaughter was diagnosed today with a staph infection.  I have no doubt that this is what she has fter seeing pictures on the internet.  I was just wondering how she could have contracted this.  She has been around my son who had poison ivy that resulted in a bacterial skin infection about 2 weeks ago (diagnosed by his dermatologist), but her brother also had impetigo approx 3-4 weeks ago. I know that the impetigo is very contagions but was not sure what the incubation period was.  Is it possible that her staph infectin was caused from either of these with the time frame? Thanks, Concerned Granny

Hi!
A staph infection, bacterial infection, and impetigo are all grouped in one as a staph infection. The likelyhood that all the infections going around your home are one in the same. Hope this helps....good luck

I was just diagnosed with a staph infection yesterday!
I have it on my ears. I have never had it before.
I have no idea where I caught it from, but I was told it is very easy to catch and can get out of hand very quicky if not treated. I have been taking some medication (apo cephalex) and I have been washing it with salt water every night and applying polysporn to it. It has helped alot!
RJ233, I find that the polysporn and the apo cephalex has helped me alot, after 1 day of taking it, I woke up the next day and it appeared to be almost gone!
okiegal729, the incubation period for impetigo is 1-3 days. Staph infections I believe happen very quickly, but I could be wrong. So I don't think that the impetigo or poison ivy could have caused it. But again, I have no idea, just my own thoughts :)

I have had problems with staph for over a year. From what drs have told me, everyone has staph on their bodies, but some people are more subseptible to break outs. It is a bacterial infection. I have had them in the groin area starting, and over and over in that area. My prim phys. said it was in a sweat area, that is why I had problems. Then I was told it comes from ingrown hairs. They do agree it is bacterial. I have had it in both eyes, and now have a cyst on one lid that I go to have remove Friday. The primary phy. has given me Keflex on several occasions. I talked to my insurance practioner. He said I need to have a blood test and swab. Neither has been done so far, but the eye doctor will do the swab when he removes the cyst and I am going to ask him for a blood test. If you find a simple cure, please let me know. I am so sick of messing with it and I have scars everywhere I have had it. You can catch it from an infected person with open wounds, from what I understand.
