My husband has had ringworm on his right wrist for approx 2 months. He has been treating it with tamilsil, and he develpoed a rash which he was told was an allergic reaction to the ringworm fungus. Th chemist put him on micreme (part antifungal, part hydrocortisone) which improved the rash considerably which had become very red, inflamed and itching madly. She said to use it and it should be cleared in about a week. It has been 2 weeks and is not gone. Although it has improved.she also believes he is allergic to lamisil, and has given him
resolve tinea' to put on the ringworm, when the rash has cleared. (The ringworm has also spread to 4 other places- his other wrist, his upper right buttock, and both sides of his neck). These he has been treating ok with manuka/t tree oil and resolve tinea, and it is held in check and not spreading. How long can he use the micreme for, doesnt it thin the skin?. He is booked to see another doctor on thursday, and thinks he wil simply be prescribed internal fungicides and hopes to be sent to a skin specialist(, but the nearest is 3 hours away and could be months to see them. He is desperate for a resolution to the problem.
For ringworm, wash the area and then dry thoroughly by pat drying, not rubbing. It is important that the skin is not damp because the damp skin is an ideal site for fungi to multiply. Also wear cotton clothes and change them twice a day.
Also get a KOH examination and fungal culture of the skin scrapings and a biopsy skin done. If it comes out to be a fungal infection, then apply topical antifungals like Monistat. Severe cases may need oral antifungals for which I suggest you to consult a dermatologist.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
