Hello,
Thanks for reposing your faith in the forum. Urticaria is not a specific feature of HIV and can be present in other medical conditions also. When you say that I have urticaria does not mean that you have HIV. See people having HIV can be having many other skin changes apart from urticaria. These skin changes can be dry, itchy skin and xerosis, eosinophilic folliculitis, popular urticaria , psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis. These skin conditions are not pathgnomic of HIV and can be found in non HIV infected people also. Confirmation of HIV is only done by specific tests for HIV like western blot, PCR and ELISA. These tests may show accuracy after 6 weeks to 6 months as HIV antibodies take time to develop in the body. If you are showing negative results after 3 months, then chances of showing positive results for HIV after 6 months are less likely.
I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Thanks alot Bhupinder, is it possible this uticaria to be for my Hiv, and if i tell any one that i have uticaria does it mean they will know its cause of Hiv, and have you were heard or seen some one for hiv negative 3 months and later to be positive at six months? When i did my cbc in my white blood cells near by it they had written band? i ask my Gp he told me its normal, does it mean was about uticaria cells or Hiv cells, I am really worried does it take long to have symtoms cause lately i have very dry cough. once again thnaks for your valueable time and support.

Hello,
Urticaria or hives, is truly not one disease, but a reaction pattern of the skin. It results from dilation of capillaries allowing fluid to leak out into the surrounding tissue and is of two types: acute and chronic. The causes of acute urticaria are allergies, Drugs and Chemicals, contactants, certain foods, infections and systemic diseases. The causes of chronic urticaria(which persists for more than 6 weeks) are idiopathic mostly or associated with body's unexplainable development of antibodies to itself (auto-antibodies).
The treatment for urticaria i.e. antihistaminics and steroids(topical/oral) is to be taken for 6 weeks minimum and if the condition prevails after that then chronic urticaria has to be investigated. Urticaria can occur in HIV infected person but that is not the special cause. It can occur in any normal person at any time of life. Moreover since you have got the negative results after 15 weeks, so chances of HIV are less likely. But get a repeat test for HIV done at 6 months also because sometimes antibodies to the HIV virus take a bit longer to form. Apart from the treatment that your dermatologist has prescribed, apply calamine lotion and take Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a general anti-allergy supplement. It helps stabilize mast cells so they are less likely to release histamine.

Hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries. Warm regards.
