could it be a genital wart?

About a year ago (May 2007) I had some ill-advised and unprotected drunken sex with a girl I met at a bar.  She gave me a minor outbreak of molluscum, part of which I had removed and the rest of which cleared up by January of this year. Now, when I went to have some of it removed, the nurse noticed an ambiguous red spot in my pubic region which she initially thought was molluscum, but as it had no raised lump she eventually wrote it off as a rash and told me not to worry about it.  However, this little red spot is still with me, and now I'm a little concerned about what it might be.  It's probably 3mm in diameter, but it doesn't itch, hasn't grown, and isn't raised.  I'd like to emphasize that this isn't a bump, but a reddish spot -- completely flat.  I'm not exactly worried about it, but I'd like to know what it is.  My mind has instantly leapt to genital warts, just because it's right above the shaft of my penis and red, but if it isn't HPV then it's not an STI, as I was checked thoroughly for everything last summer.

I suppose I'll have to head to a dermatologist, but I was wondering if this sounds like genital warts?  I hear they can be flat, but every picture I've seen of HPV it's at least partially raised.  Anyway, if it is a genital wart (and I only have one, mind), is it possible to get it removed and not worry about it anymore?  I don't want to give it to anyone else, but I also hope I don't have to join an online HPV dating community.

Well, as it wasn't a very severe case (about four-five), she removed them through cutting.

Hi

This red spot may not be something that requires intervention. It has been present for sometime already and it has not increased in size or increased in numbers. It may be a hyperpigmented area. I know you are worried about this but genital warts are hyperkeratotic that is they are usually raised and rough. This may be a mole or a skin tag. Just continue to observe this. How did they remove the molluscum? One differential would be postinflammatory pigmentation.
