rash on penis shaft and scrotum

I had protected sex with a female over 3 weeks ago.

This past week, I developed following symptoms:  rash on underside of penis.  The next day it spread to my scrotum area.  The next day it spread to the top of my penis shaft.  After day 3, I put on some anti-fungal cream and the next day bought some women's yeast cream.  It seamed to make the rash worse and the itching intensified last night and this morning.  I woke up in the night and put some cortizone on it and that worked a bit.

Its been about 4-5 days now with no improvement.

Obviously, I am worried about STD's.  There are no soars or blisters, but the itching is intense at times.

Any ideas?

I woke up one morning and my the same thing happened to me. I used jock itch cream and yeast cream. Made it worse. I used hydrocortisone cream and it just keeps it from spreading. Puffy redness. I think it is an allergic reaction. The roof of my mouth is having some sort of reaction. My hands are having hives. My psoriasis is flaring up. My eyes are itchy and it just feels like my whole body is doing something. It itches and is painful. Gone on for a week in a half now. Got std tested all came back negative.

Thank you Doctor.

I have been racking my brain trying to think of anything I had done different in the past week or two.

I have no personal or family history of allergies.  The only thing I can think that I did different was I switched to a new soap.  I just read the packaging and the soap does have dye's in it.  Perhaps this was it - I am going to discontinue right away.

I figured I would use the Desonide prescribed, quit the soap and be done with it.

If it comes back - I will proceed with further testing.

Thank you for your response.

Hi,

If this is an allergic reaction, you could find the allergen responsible. You may ask for a referral to an allergist. Is there a personal or  family history of allergies? A complete medical history is important in determining the diagnosis of an allergy. It would also help if you write the circumstances or events that happened just before the outbreak of symptoms.

Allergy testing is usually done by either a skin test or a blood test. In the skin test, a small dose of the suspected culprit is scratched into the skin on the back or the inner forearm. Blood test, on the other hand, is also called radioallergosorbent test (RAST), wherein blood is drawn from a vein and then sent for testing for the presence of allergen-specific antibodies.

Take care and do keep us posted.

omg - woke up today - my whole penis and scrotum are inflamed, puffy, red/pink, and itchy!

went to the dermatologist this morning - said it was an allergic reaction of some kind - no infection present - he gave me a prescription of Desonide and he said it should clear up within a week.

i have no idea what could have caused this - but i feel a lot better knowing what it is!

anyone ever experienced this?

i scheduled an appointment with a dermatologist for tomorrow morning.

I still cant imagine what this could be.  red rash over almost entire scrotum and penis shaft - kind of red and puffy - very itchy - no definition, no blisters, no broken skin.  I woke up this morning and am very confident it is in the inside corner of my eye - on the skin.  it is puffy and itchy and red.

any guess as to what this could be?  I guess I'll find out - but i would love to know possibilities.  Ive searched the internet and don't see anything.

How are you?  You would benefit from a consultation with a dermatologist. The application of various topical medications may aggravate symptoms that is why i highly recommend that you have this evaluated to determine the underlying cause. Treatment is usually dependent on the clinical diagnosis.  Although the usual presentation is a blister -type lesion, diagnosis of a genital herpes is through evaluation of the lesion sample or blood test for antibodies. Try to avoid scratching. Over-the-counter anti-histamine medications may help relieve the itching.

Take care and do keep us posted with your consultation.

Leave it alone, like the Doc said!  If your so worried to ease your mind go see a Doctor any Doctor will do, if you don't have the money go to a clinic or ER and tell them.

It almost looks like its getting better as the day goes with no ointments on it.  The regular color is coming back - I can definately still see the rash and its still a little itchy, but definately looks a little better color and swelling wise.
Do you think the cortizone and yeast cream actually was making it worse? (Not to mention my non stop worrying).
Still itchy.....

What kind of dr should I see? Demotologist? Or std clinic? I'm having trouble believing its herpes, as I had protected sex 3 weeks ago. I know anything is possible.  I can't help but looking at it every 5 mins and I don't know if I'm worrying myself so bad its getting worse?  Its defiantely red and blotchy all over my scrotum and under my penis shaft and has grown on to the top of the shaft from the base.  There are no blisters or what I would consider sores - nothing open or oozing or scabbing. I dunno.....
I'm even getting an itch and redness in my left eye socket?!?!

Hi,

It would help if you refrain from applying medication at this point. It is important that the underlying cause is determined. Have this evaluated for proper management. Diagnosis of a fungal infection involves obtaining skin scrapings of the rash and evaluating it under the microscope. Fungal infection usually responds to anti-fungal medication. But it takes 1-2 weeks of application before the symptoms resolve.  Keep the area clean and dry. Avoid scratching to prevent secondary infection.

Take care and keep us posted.
