premature adrenarche

When my daughter turned 6 last June, she developed acne on her forehead. Mistakenly we thought it was molluscum (which she had on other body parts). The dermatologist recommended a salicylic based acne medication. After a few days of not working, I am trying Clearasil with a 3% sulfur base. I don't even know if this is for sure safe for children. She has had whiteheads and some blackheads and also white little bumps under the skin which look like milia but which the dermatologist said are acne. She always had a little pubic hair but this has grown much more since her 6th birthday. She is normal height and 42 pounds. Is this premature adrenarche? I have not consulted her pediatrician yet, but the more I read the more I'm thinking I may need to check with a pediatric endocrinologist. Help!

Thank you. We had her adrenal glands tested with a blood test and it came back normal. The pediatrician will check on her height/weight within 6 months. However, at her last checkup these were normal.
The acne is still quite present. I tried a salicylic acid based creme from the dermatologist for 2 wks. It didn't work. I am now trying a benzoyl peroxide cream. I was applying it twice a day for a wk but now her forehead is irritated so I'm taking a break for a few days and will reaply once/day. I haven't seen any change, however and this frustrates me. The acne just seems stuck on her forehead and I fear it'll worsen with the summer months like last year. We are seeing another dermatologist this wk. Other than these two products and sulfur based ones, there is nothing else over the counter. I cannot fathom that I will have to go the route of prescription drugs for a 6 yr old's acne. Makes no sense. I am still confused as to why this would be happening so young.

Hello,
For premature acne, if the acne is protected from the sunlight and sometimes an antioxidant treatment if applied in the initial stage to cure the lesions of acne then it can be cured at the beginning. Then medical treatment is the same as adult acne i.e initially benzoyl peroxide and topical antibiotics are used.  But they are to be used under medical supervision and not one one’s own.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
