quuestion re: folliculitis

last year, i was treated for a upper res. infection...cleared up with antibiotics (z-pac)...4/5 days after last dose of z-pac diagnosed with folliculitis.

two weeks ago, same thing happened as above

question is, why am i getting folliculitis, afterwards?  Is it the antibiotic?

It should be known the first time it happened, they gave me erythromycin.  I have not gone to my GP the second time around.

just a little nervous what i read about folliculitis...like std's, diabetes...etc, ...any help greatly appreciated

no history of diabetes.

the antibiotics completely cleared up the upper res infection...it was like 5 days after the use of antibiotics, the folliculitis appeared???

mainly back, upper chest.

i am not a md, but thought it could be yeast related (pitysporum)-sp?, because of the antibiotics?  ate plenty of yogurt during both times when on antibiotics.

i do have some dial anti-bacterial, and bactroban.

i am active, so i understand a pimple will surface here and there during exercise...but this case mimics the one i had the year before... a bit deeper case of folliculitis, if that makes sense.

thank you for your quick response!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi.

The folliculitis may be secondary to the infection. This appears to be a bacterial upper respiratory tract infection and folliculitis is a bacterial infection. It is possible that these may be associated. As for the skin condition to be secondary to the medications, this should be an allergic skin reaction and not folliculitis.

Continue with your medication and observe if this continues. An allergic skin reaction usually manifests with itchiness and large patches of skin papules.

I know you are worried about this. The folliculitis should be readily treated with topical antimicrobials.

How old are you?

Do you have a strong family history of diabetes?
