single recurring itchy mosquito bite like spot on face

For the past 6 months or so I have a recurring lump on my face which presents itself exactly like a mosquito bite about 3 cm below my eye. It is in exactly the same place everytime, red, raised and very itchy. The surrounidnng area is quite pink as well. It sometimes happens on a weekly basis, other times with several weeks in between. In the beginning it would come and go very quickly, within the day but lately it is taking 2-3 days to go although the itching subsides quicker. The very first time it happend I thought it was a mosquito bite as it is so similar to one. The next time it happened I thought it was a coicidence but found it hard to believe a mosquito had bitten me in what I believed to be the same place. After the third time I realized it was something else. There is only one so this is trivial in comparison to most peoples complaints, none the less, it is a decent itchy spot on my face in a very noticable position and it looks aweful. Does anyone know what this could be. It is not a pimple.

I have the EXACT same problem in the exact same place! I'm looking for an answer, too. I'm wondering if it is allergy related, viral or rosacea. I would love to hear any suggestions. I don't know if this is related, but I am fighting a cold right now.

I also have a recurring, itchy mosquito-like bump on my arm. It only lasts for about an hour or so then disappears. I have no idea what the cause could be, but it is rather disturbing.

I have had the same thing for about ten years now. More like a spider bite in the middle of my back. Comes and goes. Sometimes two months in between. Other times a couple weeks apart. Over the past ten years I have got 3 more. The last or fourth one about a month ago. The first one still comes back the most frequently. I have not found anyone in all this time that can explain this.
My guess (and it is a guess) is some form of a Viral infection or bacterial infection that doesn't show up on normal tests. I donate blood all the time and nothing has ever shown there either. In fact I can give baby pints. I just had a blood workup a month ago and nothing.
I feel like my health is suffering even more with time. I have headaches all the time, chronic fatigue, Cranial Pressure, Depression and recently I started getting tiny red bumps under my eyes after a bad night of headache and fatigue that in the morning leave very small dried blood specs where the bumps were.
My best guess in something like (spirochete Borrelia) Lyme disease or possibly some strain of Herpes Simplex. I am tired and would certainly like to know what this is.

Hi...about 2 weeks ago, I got a white raised welt with red around it that was very itchy right on my left breast on the edge of the aereola.  It presents itself just like a mosquito bite, which is what I though I had gotten right away.  It subsided after about 20 minutes.  3 days later it came up again, then 2 days later, then 5, then a day later.  I went to the doctor yesterday and he said it's a mystery, but nothing to worry about.  I was worried that because it was on my breast, it could be a sign of some freaky breast cancer, but he said it's not.  It is only itchy for about 10 minutes, then subsides, fully disappearing within 6-8 hours, although swelling only lasts about 1/2 hour.  Any ideas?

I have the exact same thing, which started as a mosquito bite just 2 cm left of my left eye... I was in Malaysia when I got the bite, so have assumed its been due to the different bacterias in mosquitos or an allergic reaction, but after 7 months I have started to wonder what this really is...

Anyone figure this out?  I have the very same symptom.  Bump on forearm for 10-20 minutes.  Always in same exact spot.  Looks like a mosquito bite but isn't. Very itchy then just goes away.  May happen weeks or even months apart.  Seems to happen more when I am stressed..

thank goodness im not the only one! I have been freaked out about this since it started showing up a year ago.  I have pet rats which got mites ( ornithonyssus bacoti) from contaminated bedding... This particular type of lice bites people and causes really intense itching (but no visible marks).... in the course of treating them I got bit several times by said lice..

About a month after all this I got this itchy mosquite bite on my left breast right near my underarm.. red around it and pale on the raised part. .. it went away and came back then went away and came back.  most often when I am stressed, hot, or when i get bit by insects.  Its been showing up on and off for about a year..

My mom (a nurse) said it sounds like a recurring histamine response..Zyrtec does seem to help make it stop itching faster!  Ill keep checking back here, if someone figures it out, please post!

My daughter age 17 months has gotten a red mosquito type bite or bump.  It gets very puffy, also gets them on her are.  Only left side.  She was diagnosed w/ PFAPA on Feb. And had T&A done and has been fever free for the past three months.  But these mosquito looking bumps are odd. I even took her to the pediatrician today, he said its just mosquito bites.  I told him that its unlikely that a mosquito could bite her in the same location monthly.  I told him to think like a doctor, think back to what he learned in medical school and not just tell me what looks obvious.  He was surprised by my tone and is sending her to see a ped. Deramtologist.  He said it possibly could be Mastocytosis? However spelled.  Its unexplained over-active histamine reactions.  There is a broad array of different types.  It confused me, when I read up on it.  But I am going to have the dermatologist do a biopsy on the rash to see if it is overactive masts or histamine.

4 months ago I was bitten by an insect on my left ankle.  I assumed it was a mozzie and would disappear.  It did but comes back every week or so. It is very ichy and my ankle is a little swollen and feels hot to the touch.  The bite itself is tiny and has a slightly raised bump in the middle.  Any ideas?

OK I too have been trying to figure this out!! I have a recurring itchy mosquito like bite.  They appear on my belly below my belly button all the time! What the hell!!  I thought it might be a bed bug but wouldn't they bite else where??? how do they know how to find the same spot below my belly button all the freakin time! Sometimes they're like a couple of inches apart but always in the same area! Please help if anyone knows anything about this matter.

I want to correct what I said about this happening "ALL THE TIME".  It doesn't occur every night.  It happens 2 to 3 times a month.

Same condition, left forearm near my elbow.  Mosquito bite-looking welt appears for like 20 to 30 minutes then recedes.  Occurs about twice a month, in the exact same spot every time.  Most likely a fixed allergic reaction.  Mild allergic reaction to something where exposure is intermittent.  Usually a certain food or an over the counter drug.  Can be extremely difficult to isolate the allergen and avoid it because many allergic reactions can manifest days after exposure, especially when reaction is minimal.  Luckily, only as serious as the symptom, in most cases

I get a similar bump on my forehead it comes randomly about 2 or 3 times a month it looks like a bug bite then goes away in about 30 min always in same place I was thinking it had to do with histamines but I’m really not sure. Has anyone figured this out. It does happen when I get stressed I’ve noticed or overly hot.

Wow. I also thought that I was the only one. I have one bite that looks like 3 little bites formed together on my wrist and another one that is on my jawline. They both started at the same time (I, too, thought that they were a mosquito bite) and when they reoccur they start at the same time and stop at the same time. Today I was outside in the woods and got a few mosquito bites and about an hour later my reoccurring bites started puffing up and itching. I don't know if the new mosquito bites triggered the old ones to puff up today or if it was just a coincidence. I would really like to know what is causing this, though.

I started getting a bite on my right leg in the same spot every couple of weeks beginning in the fall.  There is no way it is a mosquito bite, my dermatologist thought it was a flea bite, but I know what  flea bite looks like.  Another doctor though it was folliculitis, but it is much different than folliculitis.  It appears in the same exact spot and itches like a mosquito bite.  Just the other day I was sitting on my sofa and felt something on my arm.  It was a tiny beetle looking bug.  It looks almost like a lady bug, but smaller and black, not red.    There are never any  bugs in my apartment because we are in a cement basement that is entirely closed off.  I think the beetle snuck into my apartment to hybernate in my sofa for the winter.  When I lay on the sofa, my right leg is exactly where the beetle could sneek out of the sofa and take a bite.  It turns out beetles bite, even lady bugs, and can cause allergic reactions.  I have not been able to classify what type of beetle it is yet, but I am working on it.

i am having the same exact bites that look like mosquito bites puffy and raised hot to the touch. this has been happening to me for about 2 or 3 weeks now and i have been wondering what it comes from. at first like someone else said i thought it was bug bites but my boyfriend is not getting bitten so i canceled that solution. these mystery bumps come in different place though on bothe forearms right in the corner of my underarm by my back one on my left ancle and i got one yesterday on my left calve. they are very itchy and stop in about 10 mins. they go away and come back every day in either a different or same spot but only one at a time. like someone else also said i think they come when i am tires over active or nervous im going to pay more attention now but i really need an answer

Hi, this is so bizzarre. Today I got what looks like a mosquito bite for the third time in the same spot on my jaw line. I got curious and found this thread.
I am now starting to wonder if my other "bites" that i have had are actually bites, it has become a bit of a joke as I seem to be the only person that get's "bitten" regularly. When I lived with my mum there were 5 in the house and it seemed then that just me and my mum were getting bitten. Were we being bitten at all?

I'd love to know what this is if anyone finds out!

I've notice very similar symptoms . Exact same spot on belly  usually every 1-3 weeks . Usually over nite but have recently noticed it happen during the day, shortly after i take off my work scrubs and put on cloths to go home  . spot usually disappears in  2-3 hours. I don't notice anything until it starts to itch  . This has been going on for over a year i assumed it was spider bites . Most recently i notices 3 small bumps very close together like i was bitten 3 times .
Have you figured out what it is ?

Hey I think you guys might want to consider Dermatofibroma

It is not dermatofibroma, which is a common benign skin growth, as previously suggested in this discussion.  I have experienced this same phenomenon for about a year now.  It suddenly occurs on a seemingly regular basis every month or two.  The initial sensation is that of a mosquito bite followed by my initial reaction to scratch.  It looks and feels like a mosquito bite, but I never see any mosquitoes or any other fat or guilty insects.  It is also never accompanied by any other bites anywhere, just that one lone 'bite' all by itself.  It even happens when it's too cold and dry for mosquitoes to exist.  It itches until I treat it with alcohol just like a mosquito bite.  The raised skin looks like a mosquito bite and has the same duration.  The first couple times that it happened, I hastily concluded that it was just a mosquito bite.  Now however, I don't understand how this could be a mosquito bite since my 'bite' appears in the exact same spot on the inside of my left forearm every single time.  In fact, as soon as I feel the initial itch, I immediately know that the 'phantom bite' has returned.  Other than the short lived itching and round raised skin, I know of no other symptoms.  I am a disease free healthy male, and I do not take any medications of any kind.  I stumbled upon this site looking for answers after having experienced another phantom bite just moments earlier.  It is strange indeed, and I have no answers.

Hi ronlm and everyone, I get the same bite-like symptom on my left forearm too, in the middle of the crease in my elbow. It always starts as two half moon shapes that burn and itch like mad. They then join right before my eyes and form a ring, with a hollow at the centre. I started getting this on a trip to the usa a year ago from Australia, was in New York at the time and attributed it to a spider bite from a spider that hides in bananas in the us. However, I have since had the same thing pop up in the same place three times since being back in Sydney, Australia. Tonight the burning was bad enough to wake me up at 2am, so here I am trying to find out what it is. I've noticed every time I get it I am very tired, feel run down, a bit vague and headachey at times. When the 'bite' appears I get nauseas and want to vomit. Like everyone else has described it subsides after a few hours. I did an allergy test with my Dr. when it last appeared and showed her photos but the only thing that turned up was a mild allergy to dust mites. She said there are so many allergies and because symproms are delayed, it is impossible to identify. If I found out more I will post again. Yes, it doesn't appear life threatening but it is alarming I feel so terrible physically each time it happens.
Me too!  Min is on left forearm as well.  Comes about once a month, itches for a few minutes, and is gone.  I think I will ask the doctor to test for Lyme disease at next visit just to rule it out (or not).  Amusing though, how doctors decide that if they don't know what it is, it's nothing to worry about, right?  Reminds me of my Catholic School days -- "It's a mystery!" and leave it at that...
