small white spots on the body

What can I do to treat or get rid of theses small white spots on my skin, I thought it was from the dry cold weather, I am miserable an I try to use baby soap, cause some seem to make the spots appear more, it goes away at times, so I really don't know what I am doing to make it go away. Is there a cream or medicine to clear this up... I was told it may be signs of Vitligo or Leucoderma, Please help me to get treatment for this condition....a cry for help!
Thanks kindly

Hi,

Do you have any associated symptoms of itching etc?

There are several causes of white spots on the skin. You would have to consult a skin specialist to find out the definite diagnosis and rule out tinea versicolor, pityriasis alba, vitiligo,  lichen sclerosis et atrophicus and secondary to healing process after an injury.

Pityrospum ovale or Tinea Versicolor is a yeast like organism - treatment is with oral medication called Nizoral , topical are  not that effective.

Another possibility is a form of eczema called Pityriasis Alba- treated with topical cortisone.

You could take some oral antihistamine or antiallergic medications like loratadine or cetrizine and see if it helps with your symptoms. Apply calamine lotion at the site of the lesions to help soothe the itching.

Let us know about what the skin specialist advises and post us about how you are doing and if you have any other doubts.

Regards.

look up tinea versicolor and see if that looks like what you have. the spots can be red or white. if it is , then it is a fungus that is very easy to treat and quite common.

it can even be caught in tanning beds!
