very bad itchy rash

please help my mum has had this really itchy red spots which has developed into a dry sore rash started from her legs to her stomach and all the way to her ribcage. The skin is so dry that when it peels you see red sore skin and although it is dry it weeps. She has seen specialist and her gp and has tried alsorts of stuff but nothing has worked. They dont even know what it is. From antihistamines to steroid creams to betnovate to emolients you name it she has tried it. Please can someone help she is so desperate to know what it is so that she can get it treated. Could she be anaemic would this be the cause or even her varicose veins would this be the cause. Would accupuncture really help she is 70 years of age. Not an old frail 70 year old.

Perhaps, it could be a fungi.

many fungus attack the skin, and they like to grow. there are over 100,000 fungi. Although only 400 are disease causing and interrupts homeostasis. Some times it could also be a parasite, Lechmanaisis, attacks the skin as well, But it could be an allergic reaction, only thing is, the doctor your mother has already seen, would have diagnosed that at first if it was true.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,

The symptoms are suggestive of eczema. Eczema is a form of chronic dermatitis (rash).Allergic reaction is one of the important causes of eczema. Allergic reaction can occur to strong soaps, Solvents, chemicals, certain foods, food additives, plants, metals, cosmetics, even urine and faeces of some animals (dust mites).

Wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites. You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. You can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps. For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone as dermacort), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide).

Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin. Use good quality moisturizers to prevent moisture loss from the skin.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted in case you have any additional doubts.
