hallucinations

my father is 74, highly diabetic, he fell and broke his left hip about 3 years back, a month back he fell again and broke his right hip-bone and right shoulder.  He is home after the surgery but very weak and totally bedridden.  He on and off speaks non-sanely....but as evening falls, he starts to hallucinate that he has fallen and is lying out in the open or on the terrace of the house and keeps asking to be carried in and gets quite irritated that no one is bringing him in....otherwise he speaks quite in senses as in he feels back pain, he cries if spoken to in an angry tone, etc, but as evening falls each day he keeps feeling disoriented.  He has slight swelling on the brain and was given oxygen at the hospital for several days.......are these hallucinations normal in his case?  The doctor advised not to give sleeping pills, but if he does not sleep, he keeps calling out to his wife all night who is 73 and herself needs rest

If his blood sugar is out of control this can also cause symptoms.  But sounds like your father has many things going on.

"my father is 74, highly diabetic"

You didn't tell us anything about his diabetes, or what he or you are doing to get his diabetes under control and managed. Is he experiencing any of these symptoms:
● Dry, parched mouth
● Extreme thirst
● Warm, dry skin that does not sweat
● High fever
● Sleepiness or confusion
● Loss of vision
● Weakness on one side of the body
● And very dark urine

Has he been seen by a Neurosurgeon? Too many questions, not enough answers. Post back with complete answers.
