Hi,
the best diet / meal approach for managing both overweight and prediabetes is a low carb one.  You avoid all added sugars, and restrict grains and fruits.  You can eat as much non-starchy vegetables as you want.  Along with reasonable amounts of protein and fats (unprocessed is best).    If you want a diet approach to look up - look into Paleo or Primal-style eating.
Don't be scared to eat.  But select the right foods.  Unprocessed foods.  Foods that make your body feel good (not those that are very sweet or processed).
Daily exercise.  Finding something you enjoy and can continue regularly is also very important.  This can be as simple as a brisk 30 minute walk every day - or something else that  you like.
Hope this helps you.
