non-hydrogenated margarine is recommended according to the current clinical practice guideline despite the current discussions and critics. However, it is the individual's choice to choose margarine or butter.
Margarine is a synthetic, man-made chemical, alien to our bodies. It was developed to fatten turkeys yet killed them instead. No man-made food is good for the human body. Period! Did you know margarine is one molecule away from being plastic? Comforting isn't it? Becel contains artificial flavor. I’m not a big fan of eating anything artificial, especially if it’s there to trick my brain into thinking plastic tastes good.
not trying to disagree with everyone here. There are a lot of discussions on butter or margarine but dieticians do recommend diabetic client to have margarine that's non-hydrogenated such as Becel. it is better for client's cholesterol levels. With the article posted by other member, you have to critic it to see how credible the source is and are there any bias involved before believing thigns you read from the internet. if you would like more information and discusses it more, then i recommend you to go to a diabetic education clinic where there are diabetic team involving a endocrinologist, diabetes educator (nurse) and dietician working with you to assist you to control your blood sugar and answer all your questions re: diabetic diet. Also your doctor for a referral to such services!
I like your banana, waverider.
Butter, butter, butter, butter, butter, butter.
Butter is better!
You also might want to consider the bigger picture, Rodally. With your diabetes so out of control you need to look at your diet as a whole (including sugar and carb intake), exercise, and medication. You probably want to make an appointment with your doctor or endo to get some help on what you can do to get your blood sugar under control so you do not have complications.
I found your post amusing. Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back. It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. Yum, yum.
Butter, on the hand, has been around for centuries.
