Confused

I am little confused after reading some info on Diabetes & Hypoglycemia. I have been told I am Insulin resistant & Hypoglycemic.....does this mean I am borderline Diabetic? I am 37 years old. I am on Metformin twice a day....any info would be appreciated.

Thank you so much for that info! I am concerned about the diagnosis. I initially saw the Dr. because I was crashing HARD after eating sweets.  I was feeling lethargic all the time .I would  have hard time staying awake even while driving.  I have ...almost completely ...stayed away from concentrated sweets .  I have still been having some dizzy spells and even nausea. I am on Metformin twice a day ...... I thought the Metformin was to help regulate my blood sugar???? I think since I am still in the begining stages of this no one is sure how to diagnose me. My family does have history of Type II Diabetes so  I am going to do some more research and talk to my Dr.

Thank you again!

I did a quick search because I have heard the term reactive hypoglycemia and was curious. It sounds like Reactive Hypoglycemia refers to people that have low blood sugar after eating, even if they eat sufficient carbs.  It seems as though Reactive Hypoglycemia exists in some people entirely separate from any diagnosis of diabetes. (but they check to make sure as hypoglycemia is a symptom often experienced by diabetics). The "insulin resistant" part (which is a characteristic as well of Type II diabetes) in people diagnosed with Reactive Hypoglycemia is related to the chemical process that causes the Hypoglycemia (an excess of insulin). My quick search turned up dozens of articles so you should have no problem getting more information. I would also speak more to your doctor. I'm curious about that 166 blood sugar you mentioned as that is high (hyperglycemic) not low (hypoglycemic). Good luck on figuring it all out.

I suggest you ask your doctor to explain a bit more about your diagnosis, he obviously was not very clear.

It means you are a Type 1 Diabetic. By the way, you posted on the type 2 forum, hyperglycemia.
