Confused

I just got diagnosed with diabetes 3 weeks ago. I am a 31 yr old male that is 275 lbs. I was told that my blood sugar was 412 the 1st time and 386 when i came back in. The 1st time my blood was being tested because i have diverticulitis and they saw how high my blood sugar was. They didnt give me any medication but told me to stop drinking milk and sugared drinks. Anyway is that all i have to do to help my diabetes and should i be taking some kind of medication? I really feel uninformed in my situation. Any info would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,
Craig

You need to do several things to help control your diabetes: get on a low/no sugar (milk is high in sugar), low carb diet. Start losing weight with diet and moderate exercise. You doctor probably wants to treat the diverticulitis first before your diabetes. There may may be a conflict with diverticulitis vs diabetic medications so its best to discuss this your doctor.

I am no doctor but I cannot imagine anyone not being on some Diabetes meds with levels that high.  I do not know about the diverticulitis and how that would affect your blood sugar levels, but you definetely need to speak with your doc about WHY you are not on meds.  My highest level one day was 586 and I went to emergency & was given insulin twice to bring it down. (I am now seeing an endocronologist about this)  With those levels you must have an explanation from the doc as to why they are so high.  If you get no answers, find a new doc.

When you go in to the doctor, please take a list of questions to be answered.  Also, let us know here at the forum how you fair.

Good luck - Anita

WOW... And I thought my blood sugar was high, I think you should discuss diabetes medications with an endochronologist. Hope I spelled that correctly, Even I have many lingering questions for my doctor although I had not been diagnosed with diabetes. But maybe your doctor did not start meds on you due to your diverticulitis.  Please , talk to your doctor and if he/she wont help you please find someone that will. Hope this helped.
